Walkin' & Talkin' Union in NOVA

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)More than 80 activists turned out last Saturday in Northern Virginia to door-knock for working family candidates. "We are literally walking the walk and talking the talk to support working families on issues that matter,” said AFL-CIO Executive Vice President Arlene Holt Baker, who was joined by VA State Federation President Jim Leaman, Northern VA CLC President Dan Duncan and DC Metro CLC President Jos Williams. "We're used to folks coming to these walks at 9 am,” Duncan noted, “Today, we had crowds coming in by 8:30; let's get out there and make some history!" Walkers from 20 unions -- IAM, IBEW, UFCW, AFSCME, CWA, CWA/Newspaper Guild, IUPAT, IATSE, UA, AFGE, Ironworkers, BAC, OPEIU, SIU, TWU, IBB, AFT, LIUNA, SMWIU AND ATU – door-knocked nearly 1,000 NoVa union members. The Northern Virginia Central Labor Council runs a phone bank Mon-Thu from 5:30-9P. Labor-to-Labor walks run every Saturday and this weekend the CLC will start walking simultaneously from Prince William County out of the Prince William Federation of Teachers hall located at 2241-F Tackett's Mill Drive, Lake Ridge, VA.
