Hightower Kicks Off Labor Filmfest

Wednesday, October 10, 2007

Sunday's free screening of China Blue - introduced by nationally syndicated radio personality Jim Hightower - kicked off the official start of the 2007 DC Labor Filmfest. "Let's take this show on the road!" Hightower (right, with FilmFest Co-Chair Mark Dudzic) told the "China Blue" audience at the National Labor College screening.  Hightower -- who wrote the lead essay in this year's FilmFest program guide -- talked about his old friend -- and FilmFest co-founder -- Tony Mazzocchi's deep-rooted belief in the central role of culture, holding out films like "China Blue" as critical weapons in the fight against greed and exploitation.  Tickets for all AFI Labor Filmfest screenings are on sale now. NOTE: To get the union discount, select "AFI Member" after clicking "Buy Tickets"; you'll need to show your union card or a FilmFest discount card - available by calling 202-974-8156 - when you pick up your tickets at the AFI box office.
