Women at Work

Tuesday, September 18, 2007

Women workers' role in the labor movement and immigration debate is the focus of three events today and tomorrow organized by STITCH - an organization of women united for worker justice in the Americas. A panel discussion on the need to include Latina women in the labor movement and immigrant debate will take place this afternoon at Teamsters headquarters. Speakers will include SEIU member Gisella Ochoa and representatives from the AFL-CIO, the National Organization for Women and Jobs with Justice. On Wednesday, activists from Miami will be on hand for a brownbag lunch discussion on the future of the labor movement and immigration reform. The events conclude tomorrow evening with a happy hour fundraiser for STITCH at Rumberos Restaurant. The events are in conjunction with the recent publication of STITCH's new book, "The Other Immigrants: Where are Women Workers in the Immigration Debate?" "The Other Immigrants" is a bi-lingual book that tells the personal stories of immigrant women workers and their vision of a stronger and more inclusive economic justice movement.
