Free Screening Friday Kicks-Off 2007 DC Labor Filmfest

Tuesday, September 4, 2007

The 2007 DC Labor Filmfest unofficially begins this Friday with a free noontime screening of "No Sweat" at the AFL-CIO. The hour-long documentary follows American Apparel and Sweat X and their workers for one year as they grapple with trying to maintain "sweat-free" practices in the cutthroat garment industry. "No Sweat" is the first of six free screenings in September and early October leading up to the official Labor FilmFest October 7-17. Jim Hightower will introduce “China Blue” at a October 7 screening at the National Labor College and acclaimed director Ken Loach -- a tireless activist whose films have moved and inspired audiences for over five decades -- will present the U.S. premiere of his latest film, "It's A Free World." on the FilmFest's Opening Night on October 11; the FilmFest line-up includes a retrospective of both his best-known and rarely-screened films. The Labor FilmFest boasts an array of 29 new films and beloved classics about work and workers, from the American office to the far-flung factories of the global economy.
