Dozens Participate in Labor in the Pulpits, Labor on the Bimah Programs

Wednesday, August 29, 2007

More than 50 churches and synagogues across the DC Metro area will be holding special programs and services this weekend and later in September as part of the Labor in the Pulpits and Labor on the Bimah programs. Congregations will honor labor and raise awareness about workers' struggles by saying special prayers, touching on worker justice themes in sermons, and holding adult education activities. Speakers will include domestic workers from Casa de Maryland, a security officer and child care worker from SEIU, a hotel worker from UNITE HERE, and other local and national labor leaders. For a full schedule of activities, click here. Labor on the Bimah and Labor in the Pulpits are organized by Jews United for Justice and Interfaith Worker Justice of Metro Washington, with support from DC Jobs with Justice, the Metro Washington Council AFL-CIO, the Northern Virginia Central Labor Council AFL-CIO, and SEIU.
