Activists Rally Against Rite Aid Unionbusting

Monday, August 27, 2007

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)More than 100 Baltimore-area activists rallied Tuesday to demand that Rite Aid stop its unionbusting tactics at newly-acquired stores. The action at a Rite Aid industry event in Baltimore was the second time in a week that the company was targeted at a industry function for cutting workers’ paid sick and vacation days and denying workers the right to unionize at former Eckerd and Brooks stores. Anyone attending the conference “couldn't miss us,” said Laurie Vallone, 1199SEIU Vice President. “And get used to seeing 1199SEIU because we won't stop until Eckerd and Brooks workers have the same rights and benefits as Rite Aid employees,” Vallone added. 1199SEIU represents Rite Aid workers in New York and New Jersey.
