Electricians Light Up Medical Shelter
Wednesday, August 1, 2007
Volunteer electricians – members of IBEW 26 -- replaced shower and
bathroom fans and lights, put in new fluorescent light fixtures and ballasts and
installed several exit signs and exterior lights last Saturday at Christ House,
a homeless medical shelter in Adams Morgan. "This has been absolutely fabulous
for us", said Christ House Administrative Director David Inoue. Christ House
provides in-patient medical care to dozens of homeless individuals and runs
another facility that offers permanent housing and treatment to people with
chronic health problems. "We are always scrambling for adequate dollars to help
us provide these critical services. Getting this kind of work donated
allows us to direct critical resources to the patients here who need them so
desperately. We are very grateful to the members of IBEW 26,” Inoue said. The
Minority Coalition of Local 26 sponsored the event with assistance from the
Community Services Agency and Dynalectric – a union signatory contractor that
donated all the materials. (r) Local 26 volunteers posing for a
