Call to Arms for MD Child Care Workers

Monday, July 23, 2007

Maryland childcare workers and SEIU are looking for volunteers to assist over the next two weeks in preparation for an upcoming union election. "For the past three years, Maryland childcare workers have been working to organize their union to improve the quality of childcare in Maryland and raise wages and benefits in the industry," says SEIU Organizing Coordinator Bethanie Pointer. "A successful election would be major step towards achieving those goals," Pointer adds. Volunteers are needed for a variety of projects, including door knocking in Baltimore or Prince George's counties, making phone calls to workers to explain how the union works, and helping with data entry, filing and charting. "I urge our affiliates to consider providing person power for this important drive," says Metro Council President Jos Williams. To volunteer, contact Myra Woodson, 414-526-3372; woodsonm@seiu.org.
