DC Voting Rights Moves Forward

Wednesday, June 13, 2007

Supporters of DC Voting Rights will “pack the room” for the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee mark up of the DC Voting Rights Act at 10A TODAY, reports Ann Hoffman of DC Vote. The mark-up represents the last step in the legislative process before the act is sent to the Senate Floor for a vote. “This is the day we will see how much bipartisan support we can muster for justice for our nation's capital. The more we can pack the room, the louder will be our message,” Hoffman says. The Senate Committee began hearings on the act last month after the House of Representatives passed the act on April 19 and moved it to the Senate for final approval. “It's time this bipartisan legislation receives a bipartisan vote in the Senate,” says DC Vote Executive Director Ilir Zherka.
