ATU 689 Going Online

Monday, June 11, 2007

We're very pleased to welcome over 500 new UNION CITY readers today, members of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 689, who work at the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. Working with the Metro Council AFL-CIO, Local 689 has launched an ambitious effort to collect the email addresses of as many of their 10,000 active and retired members as possible. "We're committed to getting out in the field and building and expanding communication systems to get good, reliable information out to our members quickly," says President Jackie Jeter, who adds that the email network is necessary to reach a large membership that's spread out throughout the metro Washington area "over 10 bus barns, 9 rail locations and multiple maintenance locations." The local also maintains a website. PASS IT ALONG: click here to sign up free for UNION CITY!
