Workers Protest DOL Outsourcing Wednesday

Friday, June 1, 2007

Workers and labor activists will rally Wednesday, June 6, at noon against the outsourcing of hundreds of union jobs at the Department of Labor. Earlier this month, AFGE demanded a Congressional investigation into the outsourcing decision and also questioned the ability of GAP Solutions Inc., the private firm awarded the contract, to deliver on its low bid. Although most of the DOL workers affected are African-American women over the age of forty, “all Federal workers are threatened with outsourcing on a daily basis,” says Alex Bastani, President of AFGE Local 12. “President Bush wants to dismantle Federal employee rights and he is just using the Department of Labor as an example,” Bastani added. 2004 AFGE 12 rally against outsourcing, photo by Chris Garlock
