Solidarity Center Report: World Day Against Human Trafficking
Friday, August 1, 2014

Over the
decades, tens of thousands of Haitians have
been trafficked to the
Dominican Republic to toil as sugarcane
harvesters and domestic workers. Now,
the Dominican government is making it difficult
for their children and
grandchildren to gain citizenship—even though
the Dominican Republic is the
only country they have ever known. On July 30,
the United Nations marked the
first-ever World Day against Trafficking in
Persons to raise awareness and
highlight the plight of millions of people
trafficked and exploited. Read more at the Solidarity
Center.
