Solidarity Center Report: Two Reports on Africa
Friday, July 18, 2014
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Just in time for the White House’s 2014
Africa Summit (Aug. 4-6), the Solidarity
Center has
released two key reports on African working
people and their unions. In “African
Trade Unions and Africa’s Future,”
union leaders from a broad
spectrum of sub-Saharan African countries
discuss their strategies for
addressing challenges such as the growth of the
informal economy and the
struggle for decent jobs amid economic hardship
and globalization. “NIGERIA:
Empowering Women, Transforming Society”
spotlights a woman-run
grassroots coalition in the Niger Delta that
provides a platform for women and
young people to effectively engage in the
democratic political process, hold
local lawmakers accountable and achieve
concrete goals in their communities
(available in English and
Spanish).
