Letter Carrier Food Drive Delivers, Again
Monday, June 30, 2014
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
For the 11th consecutive year, the Letter
Carriers' (NALC's) Food Drive collected more
than 72 million pounds of food to help restock
food banks, pantries and shelters around the
country. The annual food drive—the nation's
largest—took place this year on Saturday, May
10, in more than 10,000 cities in all 50
states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico,
the U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam. Postal
customers across the country were asked to
leave bags of non-perishable food next to their
mailboxes so letter carriers could pick them up
and deliver them to local food distribution
charities. Since the annual drive began in
1992, more than 1.3 billion pounds of food have
been collected and distributed by NALC and
community supporters.
