Hopkins Strike Off, For Now
Friday, June 27, 2014
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
The 4-day strike by service workers at
Johns Hopkins Hospital planned to start Friday
at 6a was called off after Maryland Gov. Martin
O'Malley called 1199 SEIU MD/DC and Hopkins
management on Thursday and asked both sides to
agree to a cooling-off period and go back to
bargaining. “Having the governor intervene
like this is a big deal,” the union said on
its Facebook page. “We'll take the strength
from our strike vote back to the bargaining
table and work to settle a contract that
benefits the whole Hopkins community.” Click
