MD State Fed Salutes Leadership
Monday, June 23, 2014
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Nearly
400 labor leaders from across
Maryland, along with national, state and
local political leaders, turned out for the
Maryland State and DC AFL-CIO Salute to
Leadership on June 20. Awardees included Metro
Washington Council president Jos
Williams(right), Maryland Senator
Norman Stone Jr and Bea
Harris (left), recently retired
secretary and special assistant to four
presidents of the Metro Baltimore Council.
“We all stand on the shoulders of those who
have come before us, and we support those who
will carry on our work,” said Williams,
“Thank you for this recognition.”
Stone, accepting the Labor’s Champion
Award, said that “I have just done what I
thought I was elected to do; defend the
interests of the little guy. It’s been
the right thing to do.” Also attending the
event, held at Martin’s West in Baltimore,
were more than 15 union members now running for
office around the state. “Back to the
barricades!” Williams urged. “Back to the
picket lines! Back to the legislatures!
Back to get-out-the vote for Tuesday! Back to
organizing! Back to the
streets!” photo by Matt
