“Love
Songs from the Liberation War”, a new
jazz labor opera by Steve Jones, will have its
world premiere this Saturday. Based on the
real-life victory by striking North Carolina
tobacco workers in the 1940’s, this riveting
opera includes characters like RJ Reynolds, Jim
Crow, Paul Robeson, Pete Seeger and the African
American women workers, including Theodosia
Simpson and Moranda Smith, who paved the way
for the historic victory. For tickets, call
202-639-6204, or visit the Labor Heritage
Foundation’s website. “Come on out for
a night to remember packed with stories of this
titanic battle between good and evil,” says
LHF.
