Nurses’ Bake Sale: MedStar Washington Hospital Center registered nurses, affiliated with National Nurses United, will conduct a bake sale early this morning to raise funds to help the profitable hospital purchase working wheelchairs and other basic supplies. Nurses working at the region’s largest medical center have reported a critical shortage of basic equipment and supplies, despite the hospital grossing over $1.1 billion in 2011. 8-9a; corner of First St. and Irving St. NW DC.
Minimum Wage Walking Tour: The United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 400 and the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA) will host a press conference at 10a this morning at the Hillandale Safeway to kick off a week-long minimum wage walking tour aimed at bringing awareness to area employees on the new minimum wage increase, set to take effect October 1, 2014. 10a; Hillandale Shopping Center Safeway, 10101 New Hampshire Ave. Silver Spring, MD.
