UMD Workers Ratify New Contract
Friday, June 13, 2014(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
Housekeepers, administrators and other
workers at the University of Maryland
College Park have voted 477-8 to
ratify a new three year contract. The agreement
will save the workers, members
of AFSCME Maryland Council 3, nearly a million
dollars in parking costs over
the life of the contract through a
union-proposed progressive 5-tiered system.
Workers also won expanded parental and sick
leave, increased shift differential
for hours worked between 1AM and 6AM, as well
as a 2% raise and merit
increases. The contract covers approximately
3,200 workers at U-MD in College
Park. Click here for
