Taxi Drivers Face Uber Trouble

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Metro DC-area taxi drivers dealing with incursions by Uber and other “rideshare” companies are not alone. Taxi drivers struck across Europe yesterday to protest the companies that pride themselves on “disrupting” the taxi industry. Drivers in Boston held a “rolling rally” last month, slowing traffic in the city’s center, and taxi rallies have popped up in San Francisco, Cincinnati, and Seattle, too. “It’s making a full-time job into precarious labor,” said San Francisco Cab Drivers Association President Barry Korengold.
