Concrete Workers Strike in NW DC
Thursday, May 29, 2014
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Striking construction workers temporarily shut
down Military Road in upper
Northwest Washington Wednesday morning in a
dispute with Baker Concrete over
wages and benefits. The members of CWU Local
202 – part of the Mid-Atlantic
Regional Office of the Laborers – and allies
including DC Jobs with Justice
charge that “workers are not sharing in the
construction boom” in DC.
“Construction companies like Baker treat
workers as disposable,” tweeted JWJ.
“You get hurt? Replaced. Demand higher wages?
Replaced. We need a new model.”
