Letter Carrier Food Drive Tomorrow
Friday, May 9, 2014
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Before you
head out to
enjoy the weekend tomorrow, don’t forget to
set your bag of non-perishable food
by your mailbox: your letter carrier will pick
it up as part of the 22nd annual
Letter Carriers’ Food Drive. “Too many
people in this country are still going
hungry every day,” NALC President Fredric
Rolando says. Food banks and shelter
supplies tend to dwindle to critically low
levels in the spring, notes
Community Services Agency Executive Director
Kathleen McKirchy. “And because
many school meal programs are suspended during
summer months, millions of
children are left scrambling to find alternate
sources of nutrition.” McKirchy
also says “it’s important to check
expiration dates of your donations and only
donate food that has not yet expired.”
