ATU to Purchase Labor College Property
Wednesday, May 7, 2014
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)The National Labor
College expects that the
property that the college campus
sits on “will be sold by the end of July to the Amalgamated Transit Union
(ATU), so the beautiful property will stay in the labor family, which is
wonderful,” the College reports
on its blog. “The Workers Memorial will also stay on the property,
as ATU has agreed to serve as the host for the memorial,” the blog reports.
“We
will all still be able to visit a place that has meant so much to so many over
the decades.” The NLC’s academic program is now closed, and the operations
of
the College are being wound down during May and June. Although no longer
offering
an academic program, National Labor College will remain as a fully accredited
college for the next 18 months while approximately 200 students with approved
degree plans will be taking courses at other institutions and transferring them
back to National Labor College to complete their NLC degrees. photo courtesy Studio39
