LaborFest Today: Salt of the Earth
Monday, May 5, 2014
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
The DC LaborFest continues
tonight
with a screening of the labor film classic Salt of the
Earth at
7:30p at the AFI in Silver Spring. Originally
banned by the U.S. government and
now recognized by the Smithsonian as among
“the greatest 100 films ever made,”
this film -- celebrating its 60th anniversary
this year -- tells the story of
Mexican-American workers who strike to attain
wage parity with Anglo workers
and the pivotal role their wives play in the
strike. Tonight's screening
includes a raffle for 2014 DC Labor FilmFest
shirts.
