Wednesday, April 30, 2014
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Baltimore-based UNITE HERE Local 7,
which represents over 100 metro-area workers at
Martin’s
Crosswinds in Greenbelt, has
affiliated with the Metro Council. “We’re
proud to welcome our Local 7 members to the
Council,” said Metro Council
president Jos Williams, “and we’re
especially pleased to welcome back Local 7
president Roxie Herbekian, a former Council
Board member and longtime local
leader and activist.” Herbekian said that
“UNITE HERE Local 7 looks forward to
working with the Council and affiliated
unions.” Tomorrow, on International
Workers' Day, Herbekian urged area activists to
“join BWI Hudson News workers
for a picket as they demand respect, job
security, wage increases, a fair
overtime policy, and decent benefits!” The
May 1 picket at BWI (D pier, upper
level) runs from 11:30-2:30p. Contact
information for Local 7 is on the
Council’s Online Directory.
