Immigration Bus Stops at Wolf's Door
Tuesday, April 8, 2014
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Marching and chanting "Yes we can!" in
seven different languages, nearly 100 people
rallied Wednesday morning in front of U.S. Rep.
Frank Wolf's (R) 10th District office in
Herndon, Va., urging his support for immigrant
rights. Union members from Communications
Workers of America (CWA), the Seafarers,
Laborers, SAG-AFTRA , SEIU and others joined
allies including CASA de Virginia and church
groups at the latest stop on the Immigration
Reform Bus Tour. A delegation led by AFL-CIO
Executive Vice President Tefere Gebre, CWA
President Larry Cohen and SEIU Secretary
Treasurer Eliseo Medina presented portraits of
immigrants and a petition. Wolf is one of a
group of Republican House members who have
expressed support in the past for immigration
reform but have not signed a discharge
petition to force House Speaker John Boehner
(R-Ohio) to hold a vote on the bipartisan
immigration reform bill that passed the U.S.
Senate last year. Read more about the
discharge petition
here.
