Friday, March 21, 2014(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)
While the global Hyatt boycott has ended, there are a
number of local Hyatts with continuing labor disputes including boycotts, which
UNITE HERE urges travelers to continue to support. Here are the union’s
“3 Steps to Avoid Labor Disputes and Support Hotel Workers”: 1: Use the Union Hotel Guide to find socially
responsible
union hotels and avoid boycotted hotels across the U.S. and Canada. It is also
available as an iPhone app (search for “UNITE HERE”). 2: Insist on
protective
language in your event contracts that will allow your organization to honor
boycotts and avoid labor disputes without penalty. Click here to download the model protective
language.
3: Contact the Informed Meetings Exchange—INMEX—to plan your next meeting. A full
service, socially responsible event planner with 25 years in hotel management
experience, many of INMEX’s services are free, and they have a 100% success
rate at getting protective language in their contracts. “Please continue to
vote
with your dollars and act as conscious consumers in the hospitality
industry,”
says UNITE HERE.
