Martin-Gross, an
AFGE officer and
National Women's Advisory
Coordinator for AFGE’s 14th District, has
always been interested in women's
upward mobility in the workplace. Martin-Gross,
a single mom, says she's
learned from the challenges in her life to be a
stronger person and wants to
work with other women to achieve these same
goals. Martin-Gross (left) works for
the
District of Columbia Water and Sewer Authority
as a civil engineering
technician and construction inspector and is
passionate about working with
women in nontraditional careers. Martin-Gross
says she was thrilled with
President Barack Obama's recent announcement
about
a new initiative aimed to mentor young men of
color. "[Obama] sharing
his story will give young men and boys of color
the confidence to
advance," says Martin-Gross. "Young females of
color could also
benefit from mentors and role models they can
latch on to and learn from."
