Friday, March 7, 2014

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Macy's member (UFCW 400) Kimberly Mitchell (photo) went to Pittsburgh on Monday, March 3, joining her union brothers and sisters at UFCW Local 23 for the Good Jobs Healthy Pittsburgh action protesting low wages at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Pro-union employees of UPMC along with allies marched to the hospital’s headquarters at the U.S. Steel Tower. The Make It Our UPMC campaign unites UPMC employees, faith and community leaders, elected officials, healthcare providers and activists, parents and teachers, bus-riders and people across the Pittsburgh region to call on UPMC to act like a real charity by playing by the rules, partnering with the community to build great neighborhoods, and making every job a family-sustaining job. Find out more about the campaign here. – adapted from a report in UFCW 400’s Wednesday Weekly
