The United
Farm Workers
union is hosting a fundraiser on the opening
weekend for “Cesar Chavez,” the
new movie about the charismatic UFW founder.
The film stars Michael Peña,
America Ferrera, Rosario Dawson and John
Malkovich and is directed by Diego
Luna. The fundraiser will be held Sunday,
March 30 at 5 p.m. at
Regal Gallery Place Stadium with a
reception to follow at the theatre. Chavez
“used to say his job as an organizer
was helping ordinary people do extraordinary
things,” says Paul Chavez,
President of the Cesar Chavez Foundation.
“Cesar made everyone believe they
were important. It didn’t matter if you were
a lawyer in court or a cook in the
strike kitchen, ” Chavez “gave farmworkers
faith that they could win against
great odds, even if they were poor and
uneducated.” The UFW fundraiser is
dedicated to more than 5,000 farmworkers in
Fresno County battling for a union
contract and millions in back wages. For
