MCGEO has joined a growing number of
environmental, labor, and other
organizations to urge Montgomery County Council
members to protect Ten Mile
Creek (right),
part of the backup water supply for more than
three million people in the
metropolitan Washington area. Developers are
proposing to build along the
creek, threatening its viability as a drinking
water source. "After what
happened to the Elk River in West Virginia and
the 300,000 people who rely on
it for clean drinking water, it's clear how
fragile clean and safe water
supplies are in this country,” said Gino
Renne, president of Local 1994.
“Saving the Ten Mile Creek from any damage is
a vital community
priority,". The County Council will hold a
meeting to discuss the issue
today at 9:30a, on the 3rd floor of the Council
Office Building in Rockville.
Members of the Save Ten Mile Creek coalition
will be there and are encouraging
concerned citizens to attend.
