NABET-CWA Members Finally Get Signed Contract at WHUT
Wednesday, January 15, 2014
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)The four members of NABET-CWA Local 31 at WHUT-Howard University finally have a
signed contract. NABET-CWA had been forced to file a new Unfair Labor Practice
(ULP) charge at WHUT after management refused to sign the ratified contract in
December. The NLRB had previously issued a complaint against WHUT for bad faith
bargaining prior to the round of negotiations which led to the ratified
contract, according to a report in the NABET-CWA SIGNAL. After the NLRB began
its investigation of the new charge, WHUT finally signed the contract on
December 19. On December 26, WHUT issued a layoff notice involving the 4-member
unit, effective in January of 2014, but withdrew the layoff notice the next
week, saying it was sent by mistake, when it became clear that the union might
be forced to file yet another ULP charge. photo by Adam Wright
