DC Public Education Allies Gather Monday to Join National Day of Action
Friday, December 6, 2013
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Hundreds of DC
teachers, students, parents, principals, faith
leaders and community organizations will
gather Monday for a forum and
discussion of issues affecting public education
in the District. All mayoral candidates have
agreed to attend, as have local unions
representing principals, teachers, teacher’s
aides, cafeteria workers and custodians. The
forum – part of a National Day of Action
organized by the AFT -- will focus on
“Principles that Unite Us,” expressing a
common vision for public education as community
groups, parents and local leaders come together
“to reclaim the promise of public education
as our nation’s gateway to democracy and
racial and economic justice,” says Washington
Teachers Union president Liz Davis. “The
Washington Teachers Union and Empower DC invite
all public education stakeholders to attend
this important event,” Davis adds. “The
success of our schools and our children depend
on it!”
