Letter Carrier Murder Raises Concerns

The murder of letter carrier
Tyson Jerome
Barnette in a Landover neighborhood after dark
last
Saturday night is raising staffing
concerns for a local letter carrier union
leader. “The
primary reason for letter carriers being out
late delivering mail…is a lack of
manpower and late starting times,” said
National
Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Capitol
Branch 142 President
Robert Williams. “The nation’s letter
carriers deliver the mail in
every community throughout the country,”
added NALC president Fredric Rolando.
“This tragic incident highlights the need in
all operational decisions about
how and when mail is delivered to give priority
consideration to the safety of
these dedicated public servants.” Anyone with
information about the murder is
asked to call the Prince George’s County
Police Department’s Homicide Unit at
301-772-4925.
