MD/DC AFL-CIO Endorses CWA's Jimmy Tarlau for MD State Delegate
Wednesday, November 13, 2013
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Long-time union activist Jimmy Tarlau – a Metro Washington Council Executive
Board member – was endorsed by the Maryland AFL-CIO at its annual convention
last month. Tarlau, who is the Assistant to the Vice President of CWA, is
running for the open seat in District 47A which is being vacated because Jolene
Ivey is running for Lieutenant Governor in Maryland. Tarlau has served as a City
Councilman in Mount Rainier for the past six years. “It is time for labor
folks to run for political office,” he told Union City. “We can’t rely on
others to carry our agenda. Things are not getting done in Washington that serve
our communities and we now have to look to Annapolis to help solve the problems
affecting working families in Maryland.” Tarlau says he hopes to knock on over
2,000 doors in the next few months “and I’ll need to raise a lot of money so
I can get promote labor’s program to the whole district,” which includes
Chillum, Mount Rainier, Cottage City, Bladensburg, Cheverly and Landover. Click here to find out more about the
