Local Unions Step Up Participation in 8/24 March(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)

Local unions are ramping up plans to participate in the upcomingAugust 24 50th Anniversary of the 1963 March On Washington(Unions Plan Mass Presence at 50th Anniversary of King's 1963 March 8/12 UC). If your local is planning to participate, please let us know by emailing Streetheat@dclaborarchives.orgATU Local 689 is urging “all ATU Local 689 members to wear your red union shirts and march again as we honor and celebrate all those who have gone before us to make our freedom possible today.” The local’s members will gather at the Foggy Bottom Metro station at 7:45a on 8/24. AFSCME Local 2477 – whose members work at the Library of Congress – is also organizing participation in the march. AFSCME Council 26 -- which is also planning to attend -- “will be providing special AFSCME t-shirts for members that plan to attend,” the local reports. UFCW Local 400 is asking its members “to come out in our colors in support of this commemorative march.” Meet at the Lincoln Memorial at 8a and “Look for our gold colors to show unity and march together as One Voice.” IAM Lodge 1486 will be attending, reports Recording Secretary Joseph Cicala.
