AFL-CIO Charges Gaylord With Using Illegal Taxis(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)The AFL-CIO has filed a formal complaint about illegally-operated taxis at the Gaylord National Resort with the Prince George's County Department of Public Works and Transportation. On July 17, AFL-CIO organizers witnessed taxis from Arlington County and Washington Flyer picking up passengers at the Gaylord Hotel, violating county laws. This follows the unregistered use of town cars as taxis by Veolia for the Gaylord, which PG county taxi drivers have been battling for months. “We believe having unregistered cars transporting Maryland residents and visitors compromises public safety and should be stopped,” said the AFL-CIO’s Beth Levie. The use of Arlington taxis last week “is clearly a violation of county law,” agreed PG NAACP President Bob Ross at a press conference yesterday, who said Gaylord’s actions are “depriving County residents of the right to make a living.” Photo: Prince George’s County taxi drivers speak out at July 22 press conference; photo by Chris Garlock
