Labor On The Move: IUEC 10's Lowery to Organize for International; Geib Elected New Business Manager

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Jim Lowery, former Business Manager for Elevator Constructors Local 10 – and Co-Chair of the Tri-County COPE -- has taken a position as International Organizer for the IUEC. “I am very excited at working toward bringing new members into the IUEC by organizing people working in the elevator industry, many of whom have little or no training, earn substandard wages and benefits, and suffer unsafe working conditions,” Lowery told Union City. “This will make the industry safer for both the men and women working on the equipment and the riding public.” Dave Geib was elected Business Manager for Local 10 on June 13. - photo: Lowery outside Local 10 in 2011; photo by Chris Garlock
