Labor In The News: Furlough Day Parody Song(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Saul Schniderman’s catchy parody song, "Furlough Day," made Federal Radio News last week. Sung to the tune of "The Banana Boat Song," – made famous by Harry Belafonte -- the updated lyrics begin with “Fur - Furlough Day – O; Furlough Come and We Gotta Stay Home; Fur - Furlough Day, Furlough Day, Furlough Day is Low-Low; Furlough Come and We Gotta Stay Home.” Schniderman, President of AFSCME 2910, the Library of Congress Professional Guild, performed the song (right) for delighted delegates at the March meeting of the Metro Washington Council. Click here to check out the complete lyrics of what Federal Radio News columnist Mike Causey dubbed “The Ballad of the Furloughed.”
