Metro Council Takes (Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Highlights of last night’s well-attended Metro Washington Council AFL-CIO’s meeting included a decision to take no position in the April 23 DC City Council At-Large race – leaving affiliates free to act as they wish – as well as resolutions supporting the “Local Budget Autonomy” DC charter amendment (which is also up for a vote on April 23), the Global Hyatt Boycott, and a road map to citizenship for aspiring Americans. Other hot issues discussed were the local impact of the looming sequestration, and campaign and political action updates from a number of locals and allies. The Council also viewed a short version of the 2012 Year in review slideshow that will be shown at Evening with Labor next month; the final deadline for ads has been extended to 5p today and tickets are still available; email kmckirchy@dclaborarchives.org . photo: NWU delegate -- and 2012 Community Services Award winner -- Ann Hoffman (in blue shirt) reports on the Northeast Regional Summer School for Union Women; photo by Chris Garlock
