CSA's News You Can Use: Tax Time Could Mean Money for Lower-Income Working Families

Friday, February 22, 2013

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)SNAP/Food Stamps and the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) together could mean over $9,000 per year in benefits for a family of three with one minimum wage worker. But to get these benefits, workers must apply. Free help is available at tax sites across the District. Programs are also offered in Maryland and Virginia through April 15. What you can do: spread the word to let your members know that they may be eligible for both the EITC and SNAP/Food Stamps. Individuals with incomes below $31,000 and households with total incomes below $51,000 may qualify for this program. Details on who is eligible for this service, how to apply, where to get help, locations of sites where counselors are available, and hours of operation, as well as downloadable flyers can be found here: DC Residents; Marylanders; Virginia Residents.
