Library of Congress Workers Donate to Casa de Maryland

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Ten boxes packed with shampoo, soap, toothpaste, shaving cream and other
necessities items were delivered to Casa de Maryland last Friday by Jackie
Coleburn (AFSCME 2910), Saul Schniderman (AFSCME 2910) and Juanita Betts (AFSCME
2477). The personal care items were collected over the holidays in a Community
Service Drive by Locals 2477, 2910 and the Congressional Research Employees
Association to assist Casa de Maryland, a community organization – and Metro
Council ally -- founded in 1985 by Central American refugees and North Americans
“in response to the human needs of the thousands of Central Americans arriving
to the D.C. area after fleeing wars and civil strife in their countries of
origin.” George Escobar, Casa’s Director of Health and Human Services,
extended thanks “to all of the Library of Congress staff who participated in
