Labor in The News: Transit Union Demands Protection For Drivers

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)In light of recent attacks on bus drivers, ATU Local 689 is demanding shields
and more transit and metropolitan police officers dedicated to protecting
drivers. “We want to alert the public that we will not stand for violence on
our buses” said ATU 689 President Jackie Jeter (right). “We will keep
calling attention to the violence that takes place in the transit system. We
demand protection; it is the obligation of our employer to protect us.” Click
