Voting Opens for "Scrooge of the Year" Award
Monday, December 3, 2012
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Two of the nominees for DC Jobs with Justice’s 2012 Scrooge of the Year are so
heartless they’re not even human. And the others we’re not so sure of
either. Ahold USA and JBG Companies join Clarence Otis, Verizon Vice President,
Rob Walton, head of Walmart, and the Montgomery County Executive, Council, and
Police Chief as this year’s Scrooge nominees. Click here to cast your vote; the
“winner” will be announced at the December 15 DC Jobs with Justice annual Winter Cabaret. Ahold won the nomination for
trying to run Giant Food into the ground while continuing to buy up other union
companies, closing them and then reopening non-union, JWJ says. The Montgomery
County Executive, Council, and Police Chief were tapped for attacking collective
bargaining rights and laws that benefit all County employees, including using
taxpayer resources in a political campaign against their rank and file police
officers, while JBG Companies was singled out for trying to destroy affordable
housing in DC.
