Pepco Workers Reject Contract

Friday, September 28, 2012

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Pepco workers overwhelmingly rejected the company’s "last, best and final" contract offer yesterday. Over 90% of the membership voted, “an unprecedented total vote in the 33 year history of Local 1900,” IBEW 1900 President Jim Griffin told Union City. The vote against Pepco’s offer was nearly 5 to 1; “Our members did not fall for Pepco's attempt to ‘buy’ the contract when they offered an ‘equity’ adjustment to wages for some of our field workers,” said Griffin. “But more importantly, our members were not swayed by Pepco's demand that retroactive pay to June would be contingent on ratifying the offer by today, September 27.” The union is scheduled to meet today with Pepco and the federal mediator.
