Occupy Our Homes Fights Eviction of DC Union Retiree
Monday, June 4, 2012
(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Occupy Our Homes DC helped stop the eviction of Bertina Jones and today at noon
will rally
to keep Deborah Harris in her home. After 23 years of saving lives as a
Paramedic EMT with the DC Fire Department, Harris suffered a career-ending
injury on the job. Due to lost wages, the AFGE Local 3721 retiree fell behind on
her mortgage, ended up in foreclosure and is about to lose her home, after
Occupy Our Homes DC says she was “given the run around by both Chase Bank and
Freddie Mac.” The group is rallying at noon at the Freddie Mac office to
demand a halt to their evictions efforts and urge Chase Bank to give Harris a
loan modification that will keep her in her home. “Last time we rallied at
Freddie Mac (Occupy
DC Takes a Stand with MD Homeowner 2/28/2012 UC), Bertina Jones stood
up for her right to housing and was able to stop her foreclosure and eviction.
This tactic works, and we need you to ensure victory. Ms. Harris spent her
career saving lives, now it's up to us to have her back,” says Occupy Our
Homes DC. Click
