DC Labor Walk Sheds Light on IBEW Museum(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)DC Labor Walk participants last week got a special tour of the IBEW’s museum. Anchoring the far end of the lower level event space at IBEW headquarters on 7th Street, the IBEW museum honors its workers and offers a wealth of fascinating historical items and information. Life-sized figures throughout the space perform the daily tasks of electrical workers and convey a sense of the heights to which they climb and the dangers they face. The museum educates visitors about its membership, its governance and election process, and the tools of its trade. The museum is an ongoing, kinetic project that gathers the oral and written traditions of the union and archives this valuable memorabilia for the future. Click here for two online video tours: one on the museum and the other on the light bulb. Funds raised by the Walk support the Community Services Agency's Emergency Assistance Fund; stay tuned for announcements of future DC Labor Walks. - photo of IBEW museum curator Curtis Bateman (at left) showing old IBEW union ledgers to Ann Hoffman (National Writers Guild) by Chris Garlock
