New Arsenal Monument Photo for Labor Map
Friday, March 9, 2012(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Salem Pearce’s photo of the Arsenal Monument is now included in the monument’s marker on the DC Labor Map, where you’ll find both current and historic labor sites in Washington, DC, including union hotels, restaurants, international and local union organizations, labor art and historic labor sites. Pearce, a runner, participated in the recent Labor History Walk and stopped by the monument during a run in the Congressional Cemetery, where the Arsenal Monument commemorates the twenty-one women who died while working as cartridge makers in the Washington Arsenal on June 17, 1864. If you’ve got a photo of an area labor history site, or a suggestion of one we should add to the map, email us at streetheat@dclaborarchives.org.
