Labor Opposes O'Malley Proposal to Shift Pension Costs to Counties

(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Labor leaders this week came out strongly against Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley’s proposal to shift teacher pension costs onto counties. UFCW Local 1994 MCGEO President Gino Renne Tuesday said the shift would be an “utter disaster” and Metro Council President Jos Williams called it “unconscionable” to burden counties already struggling to balance their budgets during the ongoing recession.
