Another Chance at Teamster History(Metropolitan Washington Council, AFL-CIO)Last week’s labor history tour at the Teamsters raised nearly $400 for the Community Services Agency’s Emergency Assistance Fund, which helps out needy families and is especially necessary during these tough economic times. “It was fun,” said Ann Hoffman of the National Writer’s Union. “And learning about the “Teamsters Under 35” program was worth the price of admission.” Thanks to the Teamster’s generosity, we have some extra copies of the “Teamsters: Snapshots in Time” book and “Teamsters: A Union’s Story” DVD, which are available on a first-come, first-served basis to anyone who contributes at least $25 to the Community Services Agency. “Since unions started out partially as benevolent societies to take care of widows and orphans of workers killed at work, labor history has a direct tie to what we do today at the agency,” says CSA Executive Director Kathleen McKirchy. “Thanks so much to all who contributed so generously to this effort!” Send your check, payable to CSA, to 888 16th St NW, Suite 520, WDC 20006. - photo by Chris Garlock
